A Southwest Airlines flight departing Hollywood Burbank for Phoenix was forced to divert to Los Angeles after reportedly experiencing an engine failure after takeoff on 11 September 2025.
Southwest Airlines flight WN1394, operated by a Boeing 737-700, had conducted a departure from Hollywood Burbank Airport (BUR).

Shortly after takeoff the aircraft reportedly suffered an engine failure. As a result, flight crew terminated the departure procedure and the climb was discontinued at 5000 feet.
A diversion was then initiated at that altitude to Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). The flight subsequently landed at LAX without incident at approximately 8:15 a.m. PT.
Following the landing the aircraft vacated the active runway and taxied to the apron hardstanding area.
No injuries were reported during the in-flight incident, and Southwest promptly rebooked passengers on alternative flights.
Southwest Airlines issued a statement emphasizing safety: “Nothing is more important to Southwest than the Safety of our Customers and Employees.”
