Boeing has delivered its 100th completed 767-300 Boeing Converted Freighter (BCF) to SF Airlines, the world’s largest operator of this particular freighter model.
This achievement marks the 767-300BCF’s crucial role in global commerce and highlights the successful collaboration between Boeing, SF Airlines, and GAMECO.
The landmark aircraft was adorned with a special emblem on its nose to commemorate the production milestone.
It was unveiled at a ceremony held on February 14th at GAMECO (Guangzhou Aircraft Maintenance Engineering Company Limited). It was at this facility that the aircraft underwent its conversion from passenger airliner to dedicated freighter.
SF Airlines and the 767-300BCF Freighter
SF Airlines, a key player in the air cargo sector, has heavily relied on the 767-300BCF for its operational success. Li Gang, Vice President of Maintenance at SF Airlines, emphasized the aircraft’s importance, stating, “During our development journey, the 767-300BCF has played a crucial role.”
“Since the first 767-300BCF was put into operation in 2016, this model has become the backbone of our network operation due to its excellent performance.”
He further highlighted the aircraft’s reliability and stability, noting its contributions to SF Airlines’ continuous business expansion, both domestically and internationally.
Boeing echoed SF Airlines’ sentiments, recognizing the collaborative effort behind this achievement. Doug Backhus, Boeing Vice President of Cabin, Modifications and Maintenance, responded on behalf of the manufacturer.
“Celebrating the 100th completed 767-300BCF with SF Airlines and GAMECO is a testament to the strong collaboration. This involves designing, converting and operating these versatile freighters.”
Looking to the future, Backhus affirmed the 767-300BCF’s continued importance in the air cargo sector, predicting its vital role for decades to come. He emphasized the aircraft’s reliability and performance, essential qualities for operators striving for success in this demanding industry.
GAMECO, responsible for the conversion process, also expressed pride in their contribution. Dr. Marc Szepan, General Manager of GAMECO, shared his delight in being part of the Boeing Converted Freighter program. The company has an involvement in both the 767-300BCF and 737-800BCF models, and in supporting SF Airlines’ impressive growth.
He acknowledged the significance of the 100th 767-300BCF conversion as a particular honor for the entire GAMECO team.
Boeing 767-300BCF Features
The 767-300BCF stands as the world’s most efficient medium wide-body twin-engine converted freighter. Its impressive capabilities include a payload capacity of up to 56.5 tonnes (124,600 pounds). The aircraft offers a range of up to 3,345 nautical miles (6,190 kilometers).
This makes it a highly versatile aircraft, well-suited to the demands of both general and express cargo markets.
As part of the 767 Freighter family, it boasts the lowest operating costs per trip, coupled with excellent payload and range, solidifying its position as the preferred converted freighter.
In terms of cargo space, the 767-300BCF offers a total volume of 15,724 cubic feet (445.3 cubic meters).
The main deck provides 24 pallet positions, accounting for 11,884 cubic feet (336.5 cubic meters), while the lower hold offers an additional 3,410 cubic feet (96.6 cubic meters).
This substantial cargo capacity, combined with the aircraft’s other attributes, makes the 767-300BCF a workhorse of the skies, facilitating global trade and commerce.
The delivery of the 100th aircraft marks a milestone for Boeing, SF Airlines, and GAMECO. It also stands testament to the enduring importance of this freighter variant.
